Shelly had a CAT scan on Sunday at MGH. Today we had a 9 AM visit to give more blood prior to beginning the new medication study and to review her status with Dr. S, her Boston oncologist.
The ride in took two hours - some 'expressway' and that was in the HOV lane too! (HOV - high occupancy vehicles but I think it really means Hand Over Valium)
Anyway, the results of her blood last week suggested that Shelly might be ... are you ready?
PREGNANT!
Today's blood test would confirm or deny but we had a priest ready just in case. The last time this happened .... well you know.
Blood came back, not pregnant. We're sending the gifts back.
Because Shelly's hemoglobin was low Dr. S thought a transfusion would be wise. We think that they took so much blood they felt guilty. To make up for stealing all her blood they said that they could do the transfusion at 2PM. A 4 hour wait. No thanks.
But by the time Shelly had her Dr. visit and her blood got back and we found out that Shelly was not actually pregnant it was well past 11AM. We said what the heck, we'll stick around for the transfusion. Day ruined anyway.
Oh, by the way, the transfusion would take 4-5 HOURS! No thanks.
Shelly then got her instructions for the two new medications. One pill in the AM along with six pills of another medication and six pills at night. A couple of EKG's later and we were finally on our way home.
On the way we called Rhode Island Hospital and asked about setting up the transfusion there. Fine. We were going by anyway so we stopped in for a quick type and cross match in preparation for the transfusion which is scheduled on Friday.
Some people hop off the highway for a burger. We give blood to hospitals.
At least it was a nice warm day.

Finally got to the Blog....So glad Shelly is not Pregnant because walking the dog while breast feeding could become such a chore. I hope the new pills will get to their appropriate target and do their thing and Shelly we hope you will feel stronger after the transfusion and no more chemo side effects. Miss seing you all, but glad to be in touch at least thru the Blog. Love to all...Store starting to get busy and I actually worked with an out of town referral today, given to me by my company. People moving here from Long Island.Have to work with them again tomorrow and probably Sat. too...Don't yo just hate those folks who need so much time to make a decision on what 700,000.00 dollar house they should buy? Hi Shelly, Harvey, Ellen and Judy,
I know you have all had awful days but yesterday must be up near the top! I hope that the transfusion makes you feel better dear Shelly. I think of you all often and wish I could see more of you. I still like my job but I have to talk all day and by 5 o'clock I feel like sitting in a closet with the lights off. I do miss my talks with Judy. I will try and take a break tomorrow and call you.
Love, Heath
