This weekend Shelly had a couple of frightening episodes. Loss of some muscle control on the left side of her face. She couldn't control involuntary movement of her lower lip and couldn't even speak for a moment. By the time she called us at 10PM it had subsided but she was too scared to stay alone so I picked her up and brought her to our house for the night.
At around 2AM it came back, milder and only for about 30 seconds but still very scary.
Fortunately she had an appointment scheduled this morning and we arrived at the hospital at 7:00 for an MRI, a CAT scan, Chemo, doctor visit.
The MRI showed essentially complete resolution of the swelling that gave her enormous headaches a month ago, you may recall. The CAT scan showed no tumor growth (but no reduction either).
On Thursday she goes in for an EEG to assess the 'seizure' and what to do about it.
The chemo was uneventful although they neglected to put her name on the schedule so she sat in the hallway getting her chemo. No big deal really.
Still not sure about future chemos but we're getting a consult with people at Dana Farber. Maybe we can reduce frequency which would be nice.
Anyway, thanks for listening.
And Happy New Year

Dear Shelly,et al...This is good news except for the lip twitching, and I am sure they will solve that. All the other test results are so positive..I went to the dr. today and was hoping I could start walking but he said no, But promised to see me next Tues 1/20 and that he let me walk then.My operation was 12/10 and he said that I would have to be off that foot for 6 weeks, and he has not relented.THe workers are making progress on the house, so we are looking to get that back in order. All else is status quo. Love to you and continued good news . Oh by the way I got the powerball lottery for Wed. It is at 146 mill so say a little prayer maybe it will be our week ...love, unk E
Dear dear Shelly (and Harvey, Judy and all the Waxmans.) I've been sitting at my computer for hours this week getting classes organized for the start of classes next week. I just now thought to myself that everything has been so quiet from Rhode Island that it was time for a check of the blog. And that's when I found the post from 3 days ago. Oh Shelly - you must have been terrified. I am very happy to hear that the test results were all so positive but I don't like thinking of how frightened you must have been last weekend. The best thing I can think of is to ask if you are still avoiding sweets. Seems to me some lemon squares might come in handy right around now. If not, a double batch of hugs to you but please let me know if there is anything I can send you. ANYTHING! Lots of love, Alice
Shelly
I hope today goes well for you and you can get an appointment at Dana soon and maybe reduce chemo. I am glad to hear your headaches are better and no new growth. Chemo in the hall! You should have your own chair, nurse and hard candy striper by now. I am trying to send you sunshine but my furnace is running right now but it will come. Luv u
Shelb
