A Long Day

Well the PET scan got done but it took 2 1/2 hours plus the exam with Dr. B. A tiring afternoon.

The news could have been better but it could have been worse too. There are no new lesions and the original tumor remains unchanged. One of the lymph nodes does show an increase in activity however. Although it might not be cancer it is much more likely that it is.

Tomorrow morning Dr. B will meet with other specialists to see if the lesion can be biopsied or possibly radiated. Its location near the esophagus makes it a tough call.

Shelly continues to feel lousy but this is much more likely a function of the chemo than the cancer. So we wait until tomorrow and I'll report back when we know the new direction upon which we will embark.

Thanks for being there.

Good morning Waxmans. I check the blog every morning and always hope for the words "Shelly is feeling pretty good." Alas, today did not bring those words so I'll say hi, give you a little Montclair news and give a call this week. Until then, a deep breath and then we'll see what is next is right.

Today is the first day in weeks that my day is my own. Thank goodness. Way too much pressure. I am finally completely finished with the semester. Grades submitted yesterday. I am taking a break from any scheduled activites for a few days. When I got back from Florida last Monday night, I hit the ground running and totally exhausted myself. On Tuesday I gave two exams and then had 15 people here (graduate students) in the evening. And then every day Wed. through Sun. (with a dinner party here for 6 people on Sunday) I had daytime work and/or evening plans with friends. It was too much work without enough return on my dollar so to speak. Now I have to figure out my summer and the rest of my life.... at least until the fall. I'll work some this summer but I have made one decision after way too much running around for the past four months. I am not going to plan any big trips until I go to San Francisco for a week at the end of June. We'll see.

In the meantime, I am sending lots of love to everyone and a huge dose of courage to you Shelly. Hang in sweet Shelly! Love, Alice

Dear ones,A big hug goes out from all of us in Cincy/Ky to wrap around you eastern Waxman's. Our thoughts from the midwest continue to send hopeful vibrations, east. It is the natural way the wind blows and we are sending all our hopes for some positive and good news and pray for Shelly to start a bounce back to feeling better. We are enjoying beautifulnmild sunny weather with temps in the 70's and expect 80's by weekend. But I will feel brighter when some good news hopefully will be on the horizon from east to west. Meanwhile love to all. Ernie and Sally.

Hi Shelly
It has been a while since I've had a chance to sit for a minute---we are in the procces of building out a new store and moving this one and having a clearance sale and being aggravated and frustrated and then it hit me...I'm worried about drywall and you are contemplating lymph nodes--not exactly a match!

Well, I think we both need to pause for a look at our gratitude list. There IS a lot to be grateful for even in the face of new challenges. First you still have the gift of friends, family and joy on the good days and the support of the same even on the not so good days. Best of all is the gift of life which the docs never expected (I share that one with you!). So let's just keep showing them how tough we are, girl! It takes more than this to snag a Waxman!

I love you and pray for you every day. Keep me in yours too.
Love
Aunt Sally
