It was a lazy day Wednesday. I didn't even post anything.

Today however will be the beginning of a long, and we hope productive process of controlling Shelly's tumor. Each chemo day will consist of 6-8 hours of infusion of the chemicals designed specifically for the type of cancer she has. While the treatment itself will not destroy all the cancer cells, the hope is that it will either reduce the size of the tumor or at least prevent it from getting larger.

Chemotherapy is a day long process repeated approximately every three weeks with cat scans taken at intervals to determine if it's working. If not, we switch to other drugs.

The side effects of chemo are the result of the fact that the drugs destroy rapidly growing cells. Cancer cells grow the most rapidly of all and are the most effected by the drugs but there are also healthy tissues that grow rapidly and they too are damaged by the chemo . Hair, finger nails, the lining of the digestive system are all rapidly growing and this is the reason for the symptoms associated with chemotherapy - stomach upset and nausea, loss of hair, nail damage etc.

We'll be at the hospital by 8 am. I'm bringing a thick book.

Dear Shelly, Harvey and Judy,

I know I am posting too late for you to see this today before you leave the house but you will see it later when you are back in the beauty of Narragansett Bay. You are in my heart and thoughts so consider yourself hugged and know that you are loved. Alice

Dear Ones, Thinking of you all today, praying for the chemo infusion to rush to their targets and quickly seek and destroy. Give Shelly a special squeeze for us. When Sally was getting her chemo, I was able to sit with her if no one else was being infused in her 2 person cubicle. Also there was a T.V. Sally could watch with a dvd player to pass the time. Does Shelly have that type of set up? Andrew lost another tooth yesterday. That makes it 3 in as many days..Love Ernie

Well the chemo was quicker than I remember and I have no complaints about that, that's for sure.

Hi Shelly,

So glad today is over and that it went fairly quickly,
Now we will all think positive thoughts that those drugs do their thing and keep everything in check!
Everyone that we know and love sends their love to you!
Love,
Carl and Pam
Are Alice's lemon squares as good as her writing?
