A Happy New Year

It's been about two weeks since Shelly's latest saga began and what a roller coaster it has been.

Friends and family visits have been wonderful for her spirits. Last Christmas day her "UnkE" and his wife Sally came in and Shelly's cousin Elliot and his daughter Alissa picked them up at the airport and drove them here, saving me from a long round trip and it gave them a chance to visit for the day as well .

The day after Ernie and Sally arrived Shelly's dear friend Cheryl Copeland

and her fantastic family

spent several hours with us. It was a pleasure having such a great group here. Shelly has known the kids since they were babies.

That evening, Shelly's cousin Alice and her son Marc came after a three hour drive from New Jersey to spend time with us. They had to leave the next morning for Marc to catch a plane from New York to the west coast - a lot of driving to be with Shelly for a few hours. How lucky to have such great family and friends.

Ernie and Sally left on Thursday and our neighbors, John and Sandy, postponed their return to their home in Boston so they could take Ernie and Sally back to Logan for me. Given the snow, the ride back to Wickford would have been nasty and I'm especially grateful to them.

Mr. and Mrs. UnkE were great medicine for her.

We so appreciate the many kindnesses of friends and family.

Last night was New Year's eve and Shelly and some friends went to a small club in town where they listened to music, had a nice meal and welcomed 2010. She got in at 3 am! How great that she felt well enough to enjoy her first night out in some time - especially without her parents!

Just thought is was time for an update.

That was such a great new year's report, I might have to drive back for more! How fantastic, Shelly, that you felt like going to a club last night. One thing that you forgot to describe, Harvey, was the incredible food and goodies that everyone brought (or cooked while there).

Marc and I really were very glad to be with all of you - happy to visit both Shelly and Ellen - Judy and Harvey and to have a chance to talk to Unk E. and Sally. The drive to JFK on Monday was only a little over 3 hours but from JFK back to Montclair took almost as long (really) thanks to my new GPS :). I just should have driven back to Wickford.

Here's a raised glass to you sweet Shelly! 2010.

Love you all, Alice

Well we are back in Cincinnati after a fantastic visit. I urge all who read this to experience the joy of seeing Shelly comfortable and cogent...it did me a world of good! Harvey forgot to mention a wonderful afternoon at Debbie's with the two cutest little guys in Westport. It was worth the drive to be together even so briefly. Thanks to all the wonderful neighbors who fed us housed us and drove us...you mean so much to all of us. And special thanks to all of Shelly's wonderful friends who have gone out of their way to stay in touch.

We are so grateful to have had this wonderful new year gift of being together. Wishing all a beautiful year
Aunt Sally.....Not so fast, How about a word...or two from Unk E.I ditto all Sally had to say and add a special tenacity award to dearest Shelly for all she has put up with and what a great job she is doing...and another to Ellen, now there is another Waxman with tenacity...If the Government only knew about Ellen and how she works, I am confident the CIA would put her talents to work and she'd locate the whereabouts of Bin Laden in no time.....Thanks also to Elliot for chauffer service, how nice to be with him and Alissa.Great also to be with Alice and her wonderful son Mark. A special hug to Judles...Even with her hip problems, she managed to handle all the hungry and she is the greatest sister-in-law anywhere!Love to all Unk E
